Koreans are increasingly choosing to shop online, with mobile shopping transaction volumes quickly rising each year, data showed Thursday. Statistics Korea said total online shopping transactions stood at 12.37 trillion won ($11.57 billion) in the first quarter of 2015. In particular, mobile shopping volume surpassed 5 trillion won during the same period, taking up 40.9 percent of all online shopping transactions. It is a significant increase from two years ago, when mobile shopping volumes had stood at 1.13 trillion won during the first quarter of 2013. In other words, the mobile shopping industry grew by 348 percent over just two years. The most popular mobile shopping category was travel and reservation services, which accounted for 16 percent of all mobile transactions, followed by clothing at 12.6 percent and lifestyle and automotive at 11.3 percent.
