Despite a contraction in consumer spending due to the MERS outbreak, the nation saw sales of imported cars hit an all-time high in June. According to industry data released Monday, a total of 24,275 foreign-brand cars were registered in the country last month. The sales figure is up 36.4 percent from the previous year and marked the largest-ever monthly sales. The upsurge was mainly due to strong sales of German brands BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, which accounted for 69.6 percent of the total, according to the report from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association. BMW topped the list, selling 5,744 vehicles last month, followed by Volkswagen with 4,321 units and Mercedes-Benz with 4,196 units.
