[기초독해] 구문(026) - 분사 (분사구문 + as 주어 + do(혹은 be))

* 분사구문 + [as + 주어 + do(혹은 be)]
"사실, 이렇게"의 뜻이 되며 분사구문의 뜻을 강조하는 역할을 한다.
아래 예문에서 as I do, as it is를 빼면 강조의 뜻이 없어지는 보통의 분사구문이 된다.
Living as I do in a remote village, I rarely have visitors. (사실 나는 이렇게 벽촌에 살고 있어 좀처럼 방문객이 없다.)
Written as it is in an easy style, it is easy to understand. (사실 이렇게 쉬운 문체로 쓰여 있어 이해하기가 쉽다.)
* Examples
1. 사실 나무 속에 가려 있었으므로 그 무덤을 쉽게 찾을 수 없었다.
Hidden as it was among the trees, the tomb was not easily found.
2. 사실 언덕 위에 서 있으므로 그의 집은 경치가 좋다.
Standing, as it does, on a hill, his house commands a fine view.
3. 사실 적에게 포위되어 있었으므로 그들은 전진할 수 없었다.
Surrounded, as they were, by the enemy, they could not march forward.
4. 사실 그는 사면에서 공격을 받았으므로 저항할 수가 없었다.
Attacked as he was on all sides, he could not resist.
5. 사실 호수 옆에 서 있으므로 이 여인숙은 전망이 좋다.
Standing as it does near the lake, this inn has a fine prospect.

1. The deaf can develop marvelous powers of meditation, released as they are from the gossip of ordinary conversation.
* meditation = 명상/ release = 해방하다/ gossip = 잡담
(해석) 귀머기들은 사실 일상적인 대화의 잡담으로부터 해방되어 있으므로, 놀라운 명상력을 발전시킬 수 있다.
2. Governed as we are entirely by public opinion, the utmost care should be taken to preserve the purity of the public mind.
* public opinion = 여론/ take care of ~ = ~을 주의하다/ preserve = 보존하다/ purity = 순결성
(해석) 우리는 사실 여론에 의해서 지배되므로, 대중들의 정신의 순결성을 보존하기 위해 극히 주의해야 한다.
