[Problem]

저는 힘든 상황에 놓여 있습니다. 제 남편 ‘체스터’는 저희 아빠와 식사하는 것을 견디지를 못해요. 그것이 저를 괴롭힌 적은 없지만, 아빠는 이따금 입 안에 음식을 넣은 채 ‘쩝쩝 소리’를 내시거나 말씀을 하십니다. 그것이 체스터를 미치게 합니다. 저희는 매주 그들을 방문하는데 항상 식사를 함께 합니다. 제가 어떻게 해야 합니까? 제 남편이 그저 적응해야만 하나요? 저희가 아무 것도 하기 전에 선생님께 조언을 구하기로 결정하였습니다. - 텍사스 주에서 곤경에 빠진 독자 
I'm in a sticky situation. My husband, "Chester," can't stand to eat meals with my dad. It's never bothered me, but Dad sometimes "smacks" or talks with food in his mouth. It drives Chester crazy. We visit them every week and meals are always involved. What do I do? Should my husband just get used to it? We decided to ask you for advice before we do anything else.  

[Advice]

곤경에 빠지신 독자님께: 사위가 공식적인 식사 예절에 좀 더 익숙하기 때문에, 독자님 부부가 방문할 때는 어머니께서 아빠께 입을 벌린 채 음식을 씹지 않게 노력하시라는 말씀을  ‘제언’하시도록 하세요. 저는 그것이 효험이 있을 것이라는 약속은 드리지 못하지만, 아버님께서 스스로 무슨 행동을 하고 계신지 더 의식하시게 해줄지도 모릅니다.
DEAR IN A PICKLE: Have your mother talk to Dad and "suggest" that their son-in-law is used to more formal table etiquette, so would Dad please make an effort to not chew with his mouth open when the two of you are visiting. I can't promise it will do the trick, but it may make your father more conscious about what he's doing.

* sticky 다루기 어렵거나 처리하기 힘든 (=a sticky situation, question, or problem is difficult or dangerous to deal with)
e.g.) The issue of equal school funding remains a sticky political issue. 
학교 재원의 공평한 조달문제는 어려운 정치적 문제로 남아 있다. 
 
* smack 입을 쩝쩝 다시다 
(= If you smack your lips, you open and close your mouth noisily, especially before or after eating, to show that you are eager to eat or enjoyed eating).
e.g.) I adore chocolate cake. said she, smacking her lips. 
그녀는 쩝쩝거리면서 “난 초콜릿 케이크가 너무 좋아.”라고 말했다 “  
 
* in a pickle 곤경에 처한 (= to be in a difficult or confusing situation)  
e.g.) Setanta's demise has left us all in a pickle. 세탄타의 죽음은 우리 모두를 곤경에 빠지게 했다.
 
* do the trick 성공하다, 효험이 있다 
(= if something does the trick, it solves a problem or provides what is needed to get a good result) 
e.g.) I do not think that that will do the trick. 
그게 효험이 있을 거 같지 않다.
