[Debate/토론] (HM-065) Mother of the groom balks at bride＇s fashion decree

[Problem]

제 아들은 내년에 결혼할 예정입니다. 저의 장래 며느리는 제(신랑의 어머니)가 어깨 끈이 없는 녹색 드레스를 입으라고 요구하고 있어요. 신부 역시 녹색을 입을 것입니다. 
My son is getting married next year. My future daughter-in-law is demanding that I (mother of the groom) wear a strapless green dress. The bride is also wearing green.

저는 40살이 넘어서 더 이상 20대 같은 몸매가 아니에요, 그래서 저는 제 모든 부족한 곳이 드러나 세상사람들이 볼 수 있게 흔들거리는 드레스를 입으면 극도로 불편합니다. 그녀는 저한테 자기가 선택한 드레스를 입지 않을 거면 그냥 집에 있으라고 알려 왔습니다.   
I am over 40 and no longer have a 20-something body, and I'm extremely uncomfortable wearing a dress where all my imperfections hang out and wobble for the world to see. She has informed me that if I don't wear the dress of her choice, I should just stay home.

제가 이야기를 나눈 사람은 모두 제가 선호하는 스타일과 색깔의 드레스를 선택하라고 말해주었습니다. 만일 제가 녹색이 아닌 드레스를 입고 등장한다면 한 바탕 소란이 벌어질 것이며 나가달라는 요구를 받을 것이라는 것을 저는 확신하고 있어요. 
Everyone I have talked to has told me to pick the style and color dress I prefer. If I show up in a dress that isn't green, I'm pretty sure it will create a scene and I'll be asked to leave.

[Advice]

녹색이 보이는 독자님께: 독자님의 아드님의 약혼녀는 무례하고 자기중심적이고 무감각(온건하게 말해서)한 것 같습니다. 그녀가 독자님이 과다노출이라고 느끼게 하는 옷과 아드님의 결혼식에 불참하는 것 중에서 택일하라고 사실상 강요하는 것은 충격적입니다. 독자님의 아드님은 이 사실을 알고 있나요? 아드님은 그것을 어떻게 생각하나요?   
DEAR SEEING GREEN: Your son's fiancee appears to be rude, self-centered and insensitive (to put it mildly). That she would actually force you to choose between an outfit that makes you feel overexposed and not attending your son's wedding is shocking. Does your son know about this, and what does he think about it?  

그녀와 한 번 더 대화를 나누세요. 녹색을 입는 것에는 반대의사가 없지만 어깨 끈이 없는 것은 아무 것도 입지 않을 것이라고 그녀에게 말씀하세요. 그리고 독자님이 따르지 않으면 그녀가 정말로 결혼식에서 독자님을 반기지 않을 의도라면, 독자님은 참석하지 마세요. 그것이 그녀가 제 정신을 차리도록 해주기를 희망해 봅시다. 왜냐하면 만약 그렇게 되지 않는다면, 어쨌든 독자님이 그녀와 아드님을 자주 만나게 될지 의심스럽기 때문입니다.
Talk to her once more. Tell her that while you have no objection to wearing something green, you do not intend to wear anything strapless ─ and if she really means that if you don't comply you won't be welcome at the wedding, you will not be there. Let's hope it brings her to her senses because if it doesn't, I doubt you'll be seeing much of her and your son anyway.

* strapless (특히 드레스, 브래지어가) 어깨 끈이 없는 (= a dress or shirt that has no straps over your shoulders)
e.g.) They both wore white strapless dresses. 그들 둘 다 어깨 끈이 없는 드레스를 입었다.

* hang out (특정 장소에서 또는 특정인과) 많은 시간을 보내다 (= to spend a lot of time in a particular place or with particular people)
