* with + 목적어 + 분사(or 형용사)
분사구문의 부대상황 (동시상황)을 나타내는 구문인데, 목적어와 분사는 의미상의 주어, 술어의
관계를 이룬다. 그 외에 "with + 목적어 + 보어(분사가 아닌)"의 구문도 많다.
He stood with his back leaning against the wall. (그는 벽에 등을 기대고 서 있었다.)
She stood with her face turned away from him. (그 여자는 그에게서 얼굴을 돌리고 서 있었다.)
* Examples
1. 그는 책을 읽고 있었고, 부인은 옆에서 뜨게질을 하고 있었다.
The man was reading a book, with his wife knitting beside him.
2. 그는 팔짱을 끼고 의자에 앉아 있었다.
He sat in the chair with his arms folded.
3. 그는 고개를 숙이고, 어깨를 굽히고 걸었다.
He walked with head bent, shoulders stooping.
4. 입에 무엇을 가득히 넣고 말하지 마라.
Don't speak with your mouth full.
5. 베게 위에 두 발을 올려 놓고 그는 자고 있었다.
He was sleeping with his feet on the pillow.
6. 그 여자는 아기를 업고 서 있었다.
She was standing with her baby on her back.

1. I stood at the window of my garret, and saw that the street was illumined as at night, lamps and shop fronts perfectly visible, with folk going about their business.
* garret = 다락방/ illumine = 비추다, 밝게 하다/ as at night = as it was illumined at night/ visible = 보이는
(해석) 나는 나의 다락방 창가에 서서 거리가 밤처럼 조명이 되고, 가로등과 상점 앞 들이 환히 보이고, 사람들이 그들의 일을 하느라 여기저기 오가는 것을 보았다.
2. Travel is a wonderful educator if it is intelligent travel done with eyes open and mind at work. Mere traveling either in foreign lands or at home is usually time half wasted.
* educator = 교육자/ at work = 작용하여; (~을) 하고 있는
(해석) 여행은, 그것이 눈을 뜨고 마음을 쓰면서 한 총명한 여행이면, 놀라운 교육자가 된다. 외국이건 국내이건 그저 실없이 하는 여행은 대개 절반(은) 낭비한 시간에 불과하다.
