Today is New Year's Day. Cindy's family has gathered in the living room to talk about each person's resolutions for the New Year. Cindy says her New Year's resolution is to learn how to play tennis. She wishes to try out for her school's tennis team. Her younger brother, Timothy, says his resolution is to get up at 6:00 a.m. every morning. To do so, he will also have to sleep early at night. Dad's resolution is to quit smoking this year. He has been trying to quit for several months but he failed every time. He knows that if he quits, not only will his breath smell a lot better, but he will feel a lot healthier, too. Mom has decided that she will make a point of writing a book. She had always wanted to become a writer ever since she was a little girl but couldn't because she was busy with other work. The family has agreed that the most important resolution is to make sure that each person tries hard not to become lazy with their resolutions.
