How to Ensure and Improve Teacher Quality (클릭)
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has proposed major changes to teacher evaluations in New York. The changes emphasize student scores on standardized tests as a way to rate a teacher’s performance. It is a trend that is popping up across the country, raising concerns among teachers, administrators and public school parents, some of whom are refusing to let their children take the exams. If this approach is not the way to go and yet American students are still academically behind their peers in other countries, how do we ensure and improve teacher quality such that student success is a given?

1. More Rigorous and Selective Teacher Colleges
당신이 교수 직업을 평가하다면, 더 많은 사람들이 선생님을 믿고, 정치인들은 교사들에게
더 많은 자주성, 그리고 심지어 더 많은 보수도 줄 것이다.
If you elevate the teaching profession, people will trust teachers more and politicians will
give them more autonomy — and even more pay.

2. Evaluation Linked to Retention and Reward
관리자와 전문 평가인들의 평가에 덧붙여, 학생의 성취의 진전은 좋은 교사를 식별하는
하나의 요소가 되어야 한다.
Gains in student achievement should be one element in identifying good teachers, along with
assessments by supervisors and professional evaluators.

3. Stop Testing and Punishing Teachers
좋은 교사를 원한다면, 학급의 크기를 줄이고, 그들에게 자율권, 존경 그리고 낮 동안에 계획을 할 수 있는
시간을 주고 (교사들과) 협의를 해야한다.
 If you want good teachers, reduce class size and give us autonomy, respect and time to plan during the day
and confer with our colleagues.

4. Real Respect Is the Path to Great Teaching
우리는 교사들에게 좋은 대우를 하고, 그들을 교육하고 그들이 필요한 것을 갖도록 확실히 하며
그들을 축하하고 그리고 우리는 그들에게 지도를 기대한다.
We pay our teachers well, we train them, we make sure they have what they need, we celebrate them a
nd we look to them for guidance.
