Decisions can be made quickly, or they can be made after careful thought. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The decisions that people make quickly are always wrong. Use reasons and specific examples to support your opinion.
People make decisions on a regular basis, regardless of whether they are large or small. While some people believe that every decision should be carefully considered, others argue that not every decision requires careful thought and some can be made quickly. I believe that decisions made quickly are not always wrong because we can not always control the circumstances surrounding events. Many decisions are also not complicated and do not therefore require much consideration.

First, emergency situations require quick decisions. Jobs such as firefighters and emergency room personnel must make quick decisions based on their training and overall experience. It is their job to save lives and they both have a very limited amount of time to do so. Firefighters know that buildings could collapse at any minute under some conditions and people are counting on them to act as quickly as possible. A firefighter or emergency room worker who is unable to make quick decisions may cost a patient their life. This lack of a necessary skills means they would be unable to perform their duties and lose their job. While important decisions must be made with careful thought and attention, circumstances do not always allow for this.

Next, routine decisions do not require careful thought. Irrelevant matters such as what to eat for lunch or where to park are unlikely to have negative consequences regardless of the final decision. Being so indecisive with trivial matters is also likely to detrimentally affect any social relationships. For example, one of my classmates in university was extremely indecisive. He would finish reports and projects very quickly but spend hours or even days deciding on the final look or arrangement. For a final group project this became a serious problem. Assigned with the final draft of a report, he spent too much time trying to decide what font to use and was unable to hand the assignment in on time. After getting screamed at by both the other group members and professor, he failed the course. Trivial matters do not require careful thought or consideration.

In conclusion, not all decisions require careful thought and consideration. While extra time may be nice, quick decisions are not always wrong. Circumstances may dictate that a fast decision is necessary, but it does not mean the decision is wrong.
