 Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? All students should be required to study art and music in secondary school. Use specific reasons to support your answer.

The age at which young people attend secondary school is a very important period of development. While it is important for them to study subjects such as mathematics and science, it is also beneficial for them to study art and music. I believe this because art and music broadens the cultural perspective of students and because students who study a variety of subjects such as art and music in addition to math and science are more well-rounded than those who do not.
* secondary school = ÁßµîÇб³ / beneficial = À¯ÀÍÇÑ / broaden = ~¸¦ ³ÐÈ÷´Ù, ³Ð¾îÁö´Ù / cultural perspective = ¹®ÈÀû °üÁ¡ / a variety of = ¿©·¯°¡ÁöÀÇ / in addition to = ~¿¡ ´õÇÏ¿©, ~»Ó¸¸ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó /well-rounded = ±ÕÇüÀÌ ÀâÈù

The study of mathematics and science are fundamental to the education of young students, but those subjects have no cultural aspects that can broaden their cultural perspectives. On the other hand, art and music can fulfill this function. For example, if secondary school students participate in the school band, they can broaden their cultural perspectives of music. In the school band, the music they play is not limited to only pieces of music from their home country. Chances are that they will play famous pieces composed in other nations. This will give them a wider view of the world through music. Music is a medium of communication that portrays a country¡¯s spirit and this can be felt by playing the music.
* fundamental = ±âº»ÀûÀÎ, ±Ùº»ÀûÀÎ, Áß¿äÇÑ / cultural aspect = ¹®ÈÀû ¾ç»ó / fulfill = ÀÌÇàÇÏ´Ù, ¼öÇàÇÏ´Ù / a piece of music = ³ë·¡, À½¾Ç, ¾Ç°î / compose = ÀÛ°îÇÏ´Ù / medium = ¸Åü, ¼ö´Ü / portray = ¹¦»çÇÏ´Ù / spirit = Á¤½Å, ¿µÈ¥

Secondly, and maybe more importantly, studying a variety of subjects including art and music produces more well-rounded students than those who do not study. It is more important in society to have a basic knowledge of as many aspects of society as possible. Students with a heavy education in math and science can benefit from that education, but they will be underdeveloped in other areas. If that is so, they will have trouble functioning socially in the adult world as they encounter people with more well-rounded educations that include knowledge of art and music. In order to be on equal footing socially, it is important that receive this basic knowledge at a young age. This helps them branch out their interests making them more well-rounded.
* a basic knowledge = ±âÃÊÁö½Ä / underdevelop = ÃæºÐÈ÷ ¹ß´ÞÇÏÁö ¾Ê´Ù / have trouble -ing = -¿¡ °ï¶õÀ» °Þ´Ù, ¹®Á¦°¡ ÀÖ´Ù / encounter = ¸¸³ª´Ù, ¸¶ÁÖÄ¡´Ù / footing = ±â¹Ý, °ü°è / branch out = °¡Áö°¡ ³ª¿À´Ù, ÁøÃâÇÏ´Ù, ½ÃÀÛÇÏ´Ù

To sum up, education is one of the most important components for a young person. Students should be required to learn about art and music in addition to other subjects because art and music can broaden their cultural perspectives and because students will be more well-rounded than those who do not receive that particular knowledge. Art and music have been two of the common links between people since civilization began and they are no less important in modern society.
