Do you agree with the following statement? Playing games teaches us about life. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
There are debates over whether or not playing games teaches people about life, especially young people. Some say that games teach us important social skills that we can use throughout life while others say that games are merely activities for fun to pass the time. I agree with the former opinion because I believe games teach people a sense of fair play and the importance of cooperation.

First of all, playing games can teach young people a sense of fair play. When we play games, either sports or board games, there are sets of rules to follow in order for the game to progress smoothly. Playing fairly directly parallels some aspects of real life. For example, when playing some contact sports such as football or soccer, the players are well aware that they are prohibited from using to much force to make a play. If they do not follow the guidelines, they can receive some sort of punishment. This is also true in real life situations. Sometimes you might be tempted to take advantage of someone weaker in some capacity, but ultimately it could get you into trouble, maybe even with the law. Thus, following the rules and playing fairly in games and in life is necessary.

Moreover, playing games can teach young people the importance of cooperation. This is another skill that is necessary in the real world. In baseball, players must be prepared at all times to backup their teammates. If they fail to do so and are only thinking about looking better than their teammates, it is virtually impossible to win a game. This kind of cooperation is a vital part of doing business or being part of a family in the real world. If people are working in a company as part of a team on a project, they must be ready to help out and back up their teammates. Only by doing this can their project succeed. If a member of a project team is focusing only on what will make him or her look good, ultimately, the whole team will fail.

To sum up, I believe that playing games teaches young people valuable lessons that will come in handy after they become adults and are out in the real world. Two of these lessons include learning a sense of fair play and knowing how to cooperate. While games are certainly useful as entertainment, they also play a greater role in being beneficial for human social development.
